SOWN / BRAIN members are individuals and organisations with their own passions and interests. What we have in common is the desire to do something locally to learn about and improve the natural environment. Whatever your talents, we can use them. You can count on great company, good conversation, lots to learn and lots of others who will want to learn from you.
Financial SOWN members are entitled to free plants from the SOWN Nursery.
Free Membership includes access to all SOWN / BRAIN activities and regular eNews updates.
Some ways you can get involved
- Decide which stretch of the creek you want to work on
- Contact a SOWN member to find out which group covers that stretch of creek
- Join the local group
- Participate in their working bees or work on your own
- Get inducted by Habitat Brisbane and your group leader
- Make sure you have appropriate tools, clothes, and safety equipment and have been briefed about safe work methods
- Learn what are weeds and how to control them
- Learn what are useful native plants and how to encourage them
- If you clear, as soon as possible mulch your site then plant with appropriate species. Even weeds are better than bare or disturbed ground
- Make sure you keep a record of your work on the Habitat Brisbane form
- Maintain and enjoy your saved waterway
